Celebrating the Legacy of Southwold Hospital

Celebrating the Legacy of Southwold Hospital

We’re creating a permanent exhibition at The Old Hospital, celebrating public service, community, and volunteering. This exhibition will feature photographs, text, and memorabilia—including a tribute plaque listing those who worked at Southwold Hospital, from porters to doctors.

Through Southwold’s story, the exhibition will explore the history of cottage hospitals, their role in rural communities from the late 19th century, their nationalisation into the NHS, and Southwold’s unique journey - where the community came together to buy and repurpose the hospital after its closure.

Before we finalise the names for the tribute plaque, we want to make one last call - Follow this link to see the plaque so far, featuring all the names gathered through the dedicated work of Terry Smith: https://www.oldhospitalhub.co.uk/assets/Staff-Tribute.pdf

If you or someone you know worked at the hospital and is not yet be included, please get in touch with sydney@southgen.co.uk
